We have already learned that the letter f can make the /f/ sound. There are other letters that also make the /f/ sound.
Introduce the /F/ Sound
Look at the pictures below. Point to the letters making the /f/ sound to review this spelling pattern. The goal of this activity is to help the nonreader make the connection between the letter and the sound it makes. A reader will need to read the word to the nonreader. The letters ph make the /f/ sound in words that originate from Greek roots. Look at the pictures below. Point to the letters making the /f/ sound.
The letters gh can make the /f/ sound in words that come from German and Old English. Look at the pictures below. Point to the letters making the /f/ sound.
Practice the /F/ Sound
