The letters mn can also make the /m/ sound. All of the words with the letters mn making the /m/ sound come from Latin. In Latin, the letters mn came in the middle of the word, so it was easy to say both the /m/ and /n/ sounds. In English, the mn comes at the end of the word, so we dropped the /n/ sound but kept the spelling.
